ISO 9001
STANDARDAlso: ISO 9001:2015, ISO quality certification
ISO 9001 certifies a factory's quality-management processes, not the safety of any individual product.
ISO 9001 is a quality-management-system certification. It confirms that a factory has documented, audited processes for design, purchasing, production, and corrective action, and that an external auditor has verified those processes are followed.
It is a certificate about the factory, not a test of the product. An ISO 9001 factory can still ship a bad batch; it just has systems to catch and correct the problem. In the same way, a product-level lab report says nothing about how consistently a factory runs.
The value for a buyer is reduced variation and repeatability. Documented control of incoming materials, in-process inspection, and nonconformance handling tends to produce more consistent output across thousands of units.
Practical takeaway: Treat ISO 9001 as evidence of process discipline, and pair it with product-level test reports and pre-shipment inspection for the specific order.
