Third-Party Labs

STANDARD

Also: independent labs, testing labs

Third-party labs are independent companies such as SGS, TÜV, Intertek, and BV that test against standards and issue reports.

Third-party labs are independent testing companies such as SGS, TÜV, Intertek, and Bureau Veritas. They test products against a named standard, method, or limit and issue a report that states the conditions and the result.

Their reports are the difference between a factory’s own claim and a lab-verified result. Because the lab has no stake in the sale, its report carries weight with importers, retailers, and customs authorities.

When you order tests, specify which standards you need, which lab should run them, and the exact SKU and color, because results are specific to the sample tested. A report for one lid color does not automatically cover another.

Myth vs factA single lab report covers every product a factory makes — a report covers the specific SKU, material, and color tested, and new combinations need their own reports.

Practical takeaway: Name the standards and the lab in your purchase agreement so every report you receive covers exactly what your market requires.
